What size top loader do I need?

Measure the card, then buy the smallest rating at or above it. Here is how the published sizes line up.

The short answer

For a standard 2.5” × 3.5” card up to 35pt, a standard 3” × 4” top loader is the size both Ultra PRO and Vault X rate for it. For anything thicker, measure the card and buy the smallest rating at or above your measurement.

Why the smallest size that fits

A rating is the thickest card the holder takes. A 35pt card in a 130pt top loader is inside the rating, but has 95pt of spare depth and can slide around. The Fit Finder calls that “fits, with room”. The smallest rating at or above your card is the snug fit, which is what the makers’ size ladders are for.

When to re-measure

If your card is within about 5pt of a rating, measure again. Ratings describe the card itself. A soft sleeve adds film that the rating does not count, and makers don’t express sleeve film in points.

Above 130pt

Top loaders in our catalog stop at 130pt. For thicker cards, magnetic holders go higher: Ultra PRO publishes ONE-TOUCH sizes up to 360pt. See magnetic card holder sizes.

Questions collectors ask

Can I put a penny-sleeved card in a standard top loader?

Yes. Ultra PRO's Penny Sleeves page lists its 3" x 4" Regular and Premium top loaders as compatible products, and Vault X says its rigid toploaders are compatible with its soft sleeves.

What if my card is 40pt?

It is above the 35pt rating, so use the next size up. Vault X makes a 55pt top loader; Ultra PRO's next size in our catalog is 75pt.

Is a top loader the same as a TOPLOADER?

TOPLOADER is Ultra PRO's registered trademark. We use "top loader" for the general product type and TOPLOADER only for Ultra PRO's own products.
